Hello everyone. Jesús Aneiros has been added to the isis project at sourceforge just yesterday. He is going to help me with the extension. A work to reach thread safety must be done before adding new features and such. Another pair of hands is a lot of help. Thanks Jesús. Roger, are you OK? Had you any troubles with the rain? Saludos a todos. B. ------------------------------------------ Posted to Phorum via PhorumMail |

Funny guy who did those pictures. I liked that title "Marisol llega a rescatarme". > the pictures aren't mine but who cares, is the same > havana > > just this morning we got electricity again in my work > place At least... well I hope you are going to be better. By the way, I just added to the CVS of the isis project on sourceforge a new module called Namasol. It is a Bribrí word name for a mountain the Bribris believe sacred in Talamanca, Limón (Costa Rica). I will add today a .glade file. It is a GUI to replace that f*ck*g WinIsis. I've been thinking a lot, I am sick of the attitude from people. But I believe in us... With that Glade file we can generate code for PHP-GTK. Anybody wanting to help me adding widgets is more than welcome. By now I am trying just to copy all the widgets from WinIsis. I think we could use Smarty for formats and PHP for plugins. Anyone wants to be added to http://sourceforge.net/projects/biosis? I will base that project on Klaus's database. Maybe we could help to find a cure for AIDS. Who knows? We should name some project after Klaus since he gave us a lot... Abrazos a todos, B. ------------------------------------------ Posted to Phorum via PhorumMail |

In short: making a library "thread safe" by guarding it with some mutex is straight forward, but I am not currently planning for general multithreaded use. We had this -to some extend- in the first version known as "OpenIsis" but we never got to the last dirty details and, with Malete, decided to skip that issue. > just this morning we got electricity again in my work > place good to hear there's nothing more serious. Just one more short note from my holidays: I guess we made a big step in outlining Selene. After trying long and hard to find a way to combine highest server performance with greatest flexibility and ease of use, I broke the tie by planning two versions. First, in a "standard version", we will focus on flexility and ease of use, both in-process (like Braulio's PHP extension) and as a scriptable server. The features needed for the utmost ridiculous speed can be used only within a server (because the software needs to be very reliable) and are so intricate they are not well suited for general use. So we will do a special "ridiculous speed" version later, maybe even as commercial project. Anyway, assume the official Selene to be simple and robust, with good performance, not stunning, but usually still beating the faster of MySQL and Postgres by a factor of two or so... ------------------------------------------ Posted to Phorum via PhorumMail |

I was talking about _me_ and my family (muy egoista de mi parte, lo siento mucho) but, there are people who lost all what they have, look at the images, their houses get _under_ sea water, and remember that the salt is very aggressive to metal and others materials so cars, refrigerator (freezers), any electronic device (tv, audio system, electrodomestic equipment) get almost and some case complete destroyed, but also any wood materials get damage. not to mention that some people get serious damages in their building/house structure so, this huracane was very bad for a lot of peoples here cu roger __________________________________ Yahoo! Yet the fate of a friend is another issue and it is good to know you had no major problems. Right now I am on the german island Sylt, about 100 meters away from the sea, which next to completely flooded this island in 1968. And it can happen again, this year, or next year. The next big wave is for sure going to simply take away the house I am sitting in right now. In this rich country almost all survivors will be saved, unlike e.g. the earthquake victims in Pakistan. However, who is drowned right away is drowned and stays dead. I guess doing software we can not do that much to make the US sign and respect the Kyoto protocol by tomorrow. They are a completely lost nation anyway. But if we can help to improve education by whatever small amount, it will help in the long term. It's one reasonable thing to do, no? saludos ------------------------------------------ Posted to Phorum via PhorumMail |

Well, I was actually talking about PHP. For instance INI variables are actually global variables and they need to be thread safe. There are some macros I have not used that achieve that. And I need thread safety for stand alone access to databases. I plan to use a mutex when writing and reading. Just that. Not that I am planning to use multithreading inside the extension. There is a cleaning to do. > So we will do a special "ridiculous speed" version > later, maybe even as commercial project. Yes, you should. I don't think that gringos are going to sign Kyoto protocol ever. I believe the company that is in charge of reconstructing destroyed lands of USA is somehow related to the vice-president. You can read about that in Newsweek. Everything is about money at the high spheres even if that destroys the planet. B. ------------------------------------------ Posted to Phorum via PhorumMail |
