hello,

i just wated to thank all the malete people, after quite a while of
trying to migrate an ISIS database and trying to get wwwisis for linux
to test it, we finally decided to use malete, it imported the database
with no problem, it solved some encoding problems (we used to have to
use iconv from IBM865 to ISO-8859-1)

performance improved, i think, i want to write a HOWTO in spanish (has
someone done this already?) and build a rpm if possible. the only
thing i found confusing was having to query and then query(null) to
fetch results 16 by 16.

this is still in testing phase, but have a look:

comments welcomed.

How is so ?
when you convert the isis db you convert the charset
but do you have records with different charset ? ie,
some in IBM850 (the old one) and other with iso-8859-x
(the most recents) ?

I will apreciate it a lot icon_smile.gif
an Spanish Howto will help me to develope a malete
driver for clabel, the idea is to have different isis
drivers in Clabel so the users can chose what IO tool
they want to use icon_smile.gif

When I spent some days experimenting with malete + php back in
july/august, I wrote down some notes which should be the seed of a basic
tutorial/howto (in Spanish). Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to
progress with the task. Perhaps we can collaborate on this...

Saludos!

humm, err, yes, kinda

back in the old days we used to have a TWiki,
but it is sooo prinkled with security holes of
the most stupid kind (not properly quoting user
input fed to command lines) that I had to shut it down.

This year Erik developed a new Wiki in Lua, called Luki.
It is already in production, so Erik is now doing version 2.

Once it's ready, we will make it available,
however, it would also be great to maybe find
a place at solsoft?

saludos

I've set up a wiki (MediaWiki based), oriented mainly to document
features of Catalis --the cataloging application I mentioned here some
time ago. But this wiki also has a broader scope, well, at least that's
my intention: any other aspects of the intersection between cataloging
and software (not necessarily related to Catalis), are welcome in the
wiki. And a section on Malete is more than appropriate, since I still
have the plan of migrating Catalis from WXIS to Malete!

So this could be a home for the malete howto, at least a temporary one,
but of course I understand if you consider that it is a 'biased' home,
since it is associated with a particular software...

So here's the URL, just in case:

http://catalis.uns.edu.ar/wiki/index.php/Portada

Another option could be to set up a parallel MediaWiki installation on
this same server, exclusively dedicated to Malete, although I'm not sure
how that can be done.

Saludos.

this sounds like a good idea, that way we can collaborate and have the
spanish HOWTO. can you this soon? if you can't i'll see to install
mediawiki on my server.

Now that I convert with malete I just used "malete cdsimp db"
and I didn't need to use iconv or convert text in php. But some
time ago, testing other software using native ISIS files, I had
to convert (always) from IBM850 to iso-8859-1 every time I
wanted to show a record.

Well yeah...

If the scripts come with:
#!/usr/local/bin/lua

or any other path, I could have it hosted.

I can not install modules or programs since it is a shared web hosting but I
can compile my own binaries and use them as CGI.
